The Academy of Management is a leading professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations. There are over 20,000 academics from 100+ countries that belong. The annual international conference, held this year from August 7-11 in Chicago, Illinois, is the largest attended conference in the field of management and organizations. The conference theme, Green Management Matters, encourages us to consider how our ongoing scholarly activities-including teaching, research and service — might shape and be shaped by society’s increasing concern about responsible stewardship of the natural environment.
Dr. Ora Freedman and Dr. Anna Kayes facilitated a panel discussion along with nine other faculty members from a variety of public and private universities on the role of sustainability (economic, social and environmental) and how it can be integrated at the culture, curricular and course levels in universities.
Dr. Kayes discussed how experiential activities in the classroom and service learning projects out of the classroom can build future leaders with a concern for the social and environmental well-being of organizations.
As part of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy, Dr. Lingelbach presented a paper on the emergence of venture capital in Botswana.
